The first week of September saw the team of growing volunteers meet at the newly named Canal Turn Public House. The aim was to carry on the work at the Winding Hole. A fresh, bright sunny morning saw a good turn out, including another brand new helper!
This weeks task was to try and expose some of the hidden canal walls that have been hidden for years, after a lot of hard work we found that the walls are in a remarkable condition. When we get a digger in later this month to restore the original water level this area will look great for the local residents and other users of the canal towpath. The eventual aim is of course to restore the entire section to what it was originally.
Elsewhere we are progressing on the excavation of the Bottom Lock at Sandiacre in the coming Spring, again we are asking for anyone with a profession/passion in engineering/project management/fund raising etc.., to join us. Physical work is great, but a lot happens behind the scenes and as work is now progressing nearer to getting the first stretch in water.
