The Derby and Sandiacre Canal Society met this week at Borrowash to support the work that the locals keep doing during each year to maintain the site.
Enough members turned out to ensue that we had two teams working at different ends of the stretch, one team worked down from Mear Drive towards the bottom lock, clearing the canal bank side of saplings and brambles that can encroach onto the footpath. The second team started work fromStation Road clearing access to allow us to remove some problem trees that are causing issues for local residents.
Work is to continue on this area to arrest any over-growth and we also plan to move the teams towards the Derby end of the Canal to restore more open areas for the general public.
Picture shows Roger, our Membership secretary, helping to clear scrub close to the water that we have in the canal.
