Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust’s long term aim is to restore the canal from Lock Lane, Sandiacre to Swarkestone via Derby.
We have now acquired the stretch of canal path from Lock Lane to Bostocks Lane and the first stage to restoration will be to empty the lock chamber by Lock Lane bridge. This chamber has been used in the past as a landfill site and we have therefore contracted with Leedale to undertake this work on our behalf during the week commencing 3rd December.
We recognise that this will inconvenience residents as the spoil will be transported along Lock Lane between 8am and 5pm each day. We will therefore be asking residents not to park on Lock Lane during these hours. Residents living between our canal path and the Erewash Canal will have severely restricted access over Lock Lane Bridge.
We would like to invite all interested parties to a public meeting where we can ensure we minimise any inconvenience and complete the work as quickly as possible. Attendees will be able to talk to a director of the contractor Leedale and to directors of the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust about this work and progress on the larger restoration project.
If you cannot attend questions can be sent to info@derbycanal.org.uk
