Chairman’s Update January 2020
Dear Members of the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust/Society.
Welcome to the latest edition of the newsletter,
A very happy New Year to you all!
We have water in Spondon, the dig out has started with the first stage now underway. Thanks to Peter Ball for supplying the photograph on the right. This is only a small part of the promised section, but it is our first one back into water!
Society Meeting
Our members meetings are resuming this month with a talk from Robert Mee on the Erewash Valley Trail. Meet at the Coach and Horses in Draycott on the 28th at 7.30pm.
The Cottages
I have not mentioned the progress of the cottages for a couple of months. We have reduced the number of people working on site over the autumn and winter period. The team have finished all the floors and are now putting the final touches in to get the windows fitted in the next few weeks. All the mains are on site and the drains are in situ and several loads have been removed from site so that the team will be able to concentrate on the final layout and decoration of the cottages. We will also be getting the response to the planning applications for the café and indeed the canal itself towards the end of Jan/early Feb.
Shows and Events for 2020
Do you know of any shows or events that we could attend over the next year to raise our profile?
2020 will be a strong year to get our message across and recruit more members/sponsorship/help. We will have the trip boat, water in at Spondon, the cottages finished and another week of work at Borrowash, all this and other things mean that we should be the news for 2020 in the local area. Please let me know of anything you think may be suitable along with dates and even if you want to help in your local area.
