Chairman’s Update – February 2020

IWA Meeting

Our Trust Chairman and Gary, our membership officer, will be presenting the full picture of our restoration progress to the IWA in Notts and Derby on 19^th February starting at 7.30pm. The IWA have moved locations closer to us and now meet at the Clock Warehouse in Shardlow, so not to far to travel.

So if you want a bit more information and pictures about our amazing plans for the future, including the upcoming boat trip, or just to heckle Chris, please join us there. A lot of the IWA members currently help us in many  ways so it would be good if we can show them some support.

Society Meeting

Our own members meetings continue this month with a talk from Sarah Moody on the Commonwealth Graves Commission. Meet at the Coach and Horses in Draycott on the 25^th February at 7.30pm.

Engineering Group

Now for something you may not be aware of, we have our own engineering group working hard behind the scenes, the engineering group consisting of Roger, David & Chris are looking at the various crossings of the canal over the roads at Risley Lane, Hopwell Road and what may happen at Bostock Lane, and the culverts at Spondon Bourne and the Ockbrook.More details to follow in the next edition of the Packet.

We have received a message from the Neighbourhood Officer for the Spondon Ward regarding the Great British Spring Clean if you’ve not been involved before, is an opportunity for communities, partners and organisations to come together to brighten/tidy up an area. This year it is running from the 20^th March – 13^th April.

The section that has been highlighted is that which runs from the rear of Hobson Drive, down towards the railway station. The date set for the Spondon event is Tuesday 24th March, with a time of 9am – 3pm, (which is subject to change).
