Dear Members,
Welcome back after the Christmas festivities. I hope you had a good and relaxing Christmas. We all wish a speedy recovery to Trust Chairman Steve Jeffery, who spent Christmas in hospital and to Paul Birtles, who has recently also been admitted.
They say that January is always a low part in the year, so hopefully you’ll be looking forward to the first meeting of 2016. This Tuesday’s speaker, Kate Atkinson, will be telling us how Derby looked in Victorian times and particularly describing the slum areas. Thankfully we’ve moved on a long way despite losing the canal in the city centre. Join us at the Wilmot Arms in Derby Road Borrowash on Tuesday 26th January from 8pm. We’ll also be able to give you an update on progress since our November meeting including news on the Sandiacre lock dig.
Anyone wanting to join our working parties, please report to Hopwell Road, Draycott at 9.30am on 31st Jan and then 14th Feb. We’re making real progress there and trying to complete the extra hedge laying before the spring enforced halt. Eddy and his team have made real progress and the stretch is really improving. Hopefully the next one won’t be in snow!
We are currently preparing the next Packet with lots of news. Included in it is a request to members with email access for us to send the Packet electronically in future. Whilst we minimise our costs by getting members to deliver by hand locally in the Derby area the cost of postage continues to rise. I know that a number of our fellow Societies find this more effective and as a result they have been able to send more regular updates.
For anyone who is happy to take an electronic copy please let me know by return and we’ll arrange the change.
Many thanks
Chris Madge
