We are applying for funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a project to explore the canal heritage and then reinstate the section from the Sandiacre bottom lock (the junction with the Erewash Canal), through to Springfield Avenue in Sandiacre, which was infilled in 1968. As an early part of the heritage project we are looking to record people’s memories of the working canal. We are also looking to excavate Sandiacre Bottom Lock to find out what condition the lock is in and to see if there is anything of archaeological interest. We are planning to create information leaflets, interpretation boards and activities for schools, etc. to help people explore and understand the history of the canal.

We need our members (and any of their friends, family, colleagues, neighbours) to complete this online survey – which should take no more than 10 minutes of your time. Our approach and methods will be influenced by your comments.

We would be really grateful for your time as this kind of input is essential for the success of our funding application and therefore the restoration at Sandiacre.
