Chairman’s Update – October 2019
Dear Members of the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Society,
Welcome to the latest edition of the newsletter!
AGM
Our Annual General Meeting is planned for Monday the 4th November 2019 at the Royal Oak in Ockbrook, commencing at 7.30pm, this year we will close with a talk on the history of the Trust/Society from Paul Turner – Membership number 001. Please note there is no other meeting planned for October.
All officers and Committee members will be standing down but all have offered to stand again for re-election, new members are more than welcome, please contact myself for any information needed.
Borrowash Path Closure
Some of you may have noticed that we have had to close off part of the footpath at Borrowash. This is due to the continued emission of nasty things from the sewage pipe running alongside the path and also washing the ground away from the steps near the brook. We are talking to the relevant authorities to get this resolved as soon as possible. Alternative routes around have been signposted to avoid any issues for users of the path.
Draycott stretch in water!
Not the restored version that we are all wishing for, but the result of the heavy rains over the last few weeks. Work on the hedges and banks has been continuing to ensure that the area still looks just as good as it does in the summer months. Keith has also been busy training our team of tractor drivers up ready for next year’s workload.
From now on it will be used for chipping any off cuts from trees/hedges.
Family Concert
We have once again been offered the chance for a night out to listen to some great music at a discounted price, all thanks to one of our members, Sarah Cresswell. As usual, the concert is on the last Saturday in January (see attached flyer), so if you’d like to come along, please make a note of the date. Tickets will be offered at a discounted price, which (as far as I know) will be the same as last year – £12 for adults, £6 for under 18s. Again, more details and bookings available from myself.
Hope to see as many of you as I can at our AGM.
Regards
