Following on from the wonderful success at the Breaston Carnival on Bank Holiday Monday when we attracted 20 new members to the Society, and also saw record takings from our merchandise.
This Sunday we had two working parties in action, one at Draycott that finished the safety work on the footpath that runs under the main road. The other team set to work at Borrowash where we cleared saplings and scrub to reveal the original sluice gates for the bottom lock, the stone work still shows the original workings and these are in good condition. Please admire from a distance but we do not recommend entry into the lock for safety reasons!
Work continues along the entire stretch throughout the Summer months, lots of things are planned and now that local and national interest is becoming greater we are attracting more general support in our ambition to restore this former canal to its original glory.
Picture shows some of the team at work at Borrowash.
