Sunday the 14th February, Happy Valentines Day, no major knock-on effect for the working party that was organised for Draycott this week. Another massive turn out enabled us to set two teams with chain-saws hedge laying and two support teams backing them up with scrub clearing.
We are doing well so far, over 100 meters have been laid of the remaining 450 meter stretch to complete this area. Work has to be completed prior to the wildlife returning to nest and feed, however we did set ourselves a two year target to get all this done.
We are also in contact with the Environment Agencies regarding the required licences needed to spray the ever growing problem of Japanese knotweed that is getting closer to the canal bed.
Work is also planned for the Sandiacre area near the bottom lock in March, this will be ground clearance and the placing of a new fence next to the bottom lock ready for the excavation of the lock this year.
