Hello Members,
The last evening meeting before the Summer break is almost with us. We will be meeting at the Wilmot Arms on Derby Road Borrowash, DE72 3HA from 8pm for a light hearted topic unrelated to canals with the title “Humour from the Bench” by Cliff Warner JP. The idea is to send you on your holidays with a smile on your faces, and even those of us with personal experiences of the Magistrates Court should enjoy the entertainment. Let’s hope speeding prosecutions for those on their way to working parties are avoided!
We’ll also update you on some exciting news on the Trust regarding Spondon and the Derby Arm. The Sandiacre project to excavate bottom lock is progressing well through the various levels of bureaucracy and YOU CAN HELP us with the bid by completing the survey on the link below. Just click the link and the process is simple and will take only a couple of minutes.

With the progress accelerating we are getting set for the prospect of digging out a section and so will be trawling the members database for anyone that can help. As we get nearer to construction we will need a project manager and “building/contractor experience” as well as the normal basic planning and administration work. If you are interested, know of anyone who might be or have access to a “friendly” company that might give us preferential rates on equipment hire, advice, etc. please let me know. We may even be able to fund a part time role in due course. We think someone who is stepping down from work might be ideal, but will consider anyone who can move us forward.
Thanks for your help.
