Closure of Cockayne Bridge, Sandiacre
Due to a recent incident, outside of the Derby & Sandiacre Canal Trust’s control, we can confirm that Cockayne Bridge in Sandiacre is no longer safe for vehicle traffic. We are keen to get traffic moving quickly and do not want issues with canal restoration to hinder Derbyshire County Council (DCC).
The Trust is in negotiations with the DCC to temporarily back fill under the bridge, to support it until a new bridge can be constructed at a lower height. A lower bridge will allow the canal to pass under Springfield Avenue and Bostocks Lane without the need for further locks. Any agreements, once made, would be legally binding.
Further details to be issued in the future once they are finalised.
