It must be the lure of the water that is soon to be coming back to the Derby and Sandiacre Canal that is attracting all the new members and the helpers that keep turning up on Sunday mornings to assist with the restoration of getting the canal back to its original former glory.

This week saw the team move to Sandiacre to carry on with the work needed to help with proposed dig out of the lower lock that adjoins the Erewash Canal, the start of the great “Dig Back to Derby”.

Work at Draycott has been suspended to allow the wildlife to return for the season.

The aim this week was to restore an original fence line that is next to the lock, a lot of work has been done to erect a new fence and secure the area for the current occupier, we also managed a complete litter pick of the stretch to tidy up for the local residents.

Work will continue next week to complete the fence laying and the clearing of the scrub we have cleared.
Full details of all working parties and social events, along with membership details can be found on our web page.
