Welcome to our next Society meeting from 8pm at the Wilmot Arms, Derby Road Borrowash, DE72 3HA on 22nd March. If you’re unhappy about how the NHS is dealing with treatments these days our speaker might be able to give you a few alternatives from times gone by. David Bell is giving us a talk entitled “ The Plague Doctor – Remedies from the Past”. I suspect you’ll decide to stick with the NHS given the choice!

You’ll also get a chance to get an update on the Sandiacre Lock Project, the Tram Challenge and our plans for Derby city centre.

Thanks for the many members who have opted for an electronic Packet. While it was a challenge sending out such a large file to all the members who opted for it we have now sorted that out ready for next month. We Have had many local members take up the electronic option, but of course we are lucky to have an army of local distributors who tramp the streets for love. We are particularly keen to get a larger take up of postal members, who live outside the local area. If you can help us further please send an email to me at chair@derbycanal.org.uk letting me know. The next Packet should be with you in 6 weeks.

In the last month our working parties have been active – and increasing in number. Perhaps it’s the better weather Eddy’s organised? We’ve concluded the Draycott hedgelaying for the season and will complete fencing at Sandiacre ready for the lock opening this Sunday. If you’re keen to see the site and understand what we are doing first hand join us at Lock Lane, Sandiacre from 9.30 am on Sunday 20th. Subsequent working parties will be on 3rd April at Borrowash between bottom lock and Station Road and 17th April with venue at Borrowash or Spondon depending on earlier progress. Don’t be shy and don’t worry about expertise or strength come and enjoy a morning in the fresh air (unless Peter has his bonfire going!)

See you soon and thanks for your continued support.
