Last Sunday (26th January) an intrepid group of Society members took the display stall to Sandiacre to coincide with the Canal and River Trust open day where the public were invited to climb down in to the drained Sandiacre Lock on the Erewash Canal.

We set up our display in atrocious conditions on the line of the Derby canal above the infilled Bottom Lock adjacent to Lock Lane.

During the day we were able to tell many visitors to the display our plans to submit an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore the 750m stretch of canal from the Junction with the Erewash at Lock Lane through to Sandringham Road. Many visitors were fascinated by the picture of the Boat Inn and the canal frozen over. The picture below was taken from the Top Lock looking down the canal towards Lock Lane. The remains of the Boat Inn can be seen in the hedgerow adjacent to the the allotments.

We met a number of prospective new members. [button color=”green” size=”medium” link=”http://derbycanal.org.uk/the-society/join-us/” target=”blank” ]Become a Member[/button]
