I hope you’ve had a Good Easter and are looking forward to our next meeting. Following a run through of old “remedies” from “The Plague Doctor” last month we are on a less gruesome topic this month. On 26th April we are welcoming Paul Sturges reminding us what life was like in “Derby in the 1950s”. I reckon there would still have been bits of canal around then even though there wouldn’t have been much traffic. I’m sure a number of our members will remember growing up in the 1950s so it’ll be a stroll down memory lane.

Eddy and the combined Borrowash/Canal team have made great strides at clearing Borrowash just before much of the work ceased to protect wildlife. It’s looking much tidier now and a number of cracked willows have been dealt with to open up the area again.

The next meeting is scheduled for 8th May after the bank holiday and will take place at Sandiacre so that we can tidy up the area after our fencing work last month. Start time 9.30am at Lock Lane.

Before that we are looking for any helpers to join us at the Breaston Gala on Bank holiday Monday, 2nd May opening at 11am. Anyone wishing to help to put up the stall, sell, talk or just act as rent- a – crowd please contact Eddy who is in charge on organiser@derbycanal.org.uk

We also have an early call for the return of the barn Dance that was so popular last year. Keep the date free on Sat 23rd July at Spondon Village Hall from 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 ea including food and available from me or other committee members.

Hope to see you soon.
